Volunteer Programme

  Hands-On Raptor Conservation Experience

In partnership with Obsidian Ecology LTD, the Kenya Bird of Prey Trust welcomes dedicated volunteers to actively support its vital raptor conservation efforts in Naivasha, Kenya. Obsidian Ecology specialises in managing meaningful volunteer experiences, providing logistical support, and on-the-ground coordination for individuals passionate about wildlife conservation. Together, we offer a unique opportunity for volunteers to contribute to the long-term protection of Kenya’s birds of prey while gaining unforgettable conservation experiences.

As a volunteer, you will participate in meaningful fieldwork, including population surveys and banding studies of African Fish Eagles on Lake Naivasha, a RAMSAR site renowned for its rich biodiversity and status as a birdwatching paradise in the Rift Valley. You will monitor the breeding population of Critically Endangered Rüppell's Vultures in Hell's Gate National Park, as well as contributing to essential conservation efforts to improve and protect Kilimandege Santuary.

Volunteers will be based at the Naivasha Raptor Centre, assisting in the care of our diverse collection of permanent resident raptors; cleaning, feeding, maintaining enclosures and interacting with daily visitors, all of which are essential for the efficient operation and funding of the Centre. Occasionally, when such situations arise, you will be able to join a rescue mission, and sit in and assist on an operation in our clinic with our in-house avian vet.

We also offer an engaging internship programme for individuals seeking a deeper and more structured experience in conservation and raptor rehabilitation. As an intern, you will work closely with our experts, developing practical skills while contributing to vital research and conservation initiatives.

For more information about both the volunteer and internship programmes, including requirements, roles, and application procedures, please download our detailed guide: Information for Prospective Volunteers and Interns.
